How to replace the display of an iPhone 15 Pro Max
The iPhone 15 Pro Max display (OLED LTPO 120Hz, titanium frame, Always-On) is a premium spare part. This guide covers disassembly, sensor transfer, and testing. Average time: 30-40 minutes. Difficulty: medium.
Warnings Before You Start
- Titanium frame: the clips are precise, do not force the opening. The Face ID flex must be transferred intact.
- Always-On and native ProMotion 120Hz only work with OLED displays: INCELL displays do not faithfully replicate them.
- Disconnect the battery before the display connectors. Heat moderately (max 80°C).
Required Parts
Recommended Tools
- Pentalobe P2 screwdriver
- Tri-wing Y000 screwdriver
- Phillips #00 screwdriver
- Suction cup with ring + pry tools
- Heating plate or hot air
- Antistatic tweezers
- iPhone 15 Pro Max perimeter adhesive
Step-by-Step Procedure
- 1
Power off and remove the pentalobe screws
Fully power off the iPhone. Remove the 2 pentalobe P2 screws on the bottom edge.
- 2
Heat the perimeter and lift the display
Heat the edges to 70-80°C for 2-3 minutes. Apply the suction cup, create a gap with a pry tool and slide it along the sides to cut the adhesive.
💡 Tip: Lift the display from the bottom, rotating it like a book page: the metal clips are on the top side. Never pull upward. - 3
Disconnect the battery, then the display connectors
Open to ~90°. Remove the tri-wing bracket and disconnect the battery connector FIRST. Then remove the display connector cover (Phillips #00 screws) and disconnect the touch and display flex cables.
- 4
Transfer the reusable components to the new display
Carefully disassemble from the old display and transfer to the new one: earpiece speaker, top sensors, and the Face ID flex (NOT clonable, must remain the phone's original). Follow the same assembly order.
💡 Tip: If you break the Face ID flex, Face ID will never work on that phone again. Handle it with extreme care. - 5
Connect and test the new display BEFORE reassembling
Connect only the display connectors (not the battery yet), power on temporarily and check: touch across the entire surface, brightness, ProMotion 120Hz, Dynamic Island, Face ID, earpiece audio. If everything is OK, disconnect again. Check in Settings → Display that the adaptive refresh rate is active.
- 6
Clean and apply the new perimeter adhesive
Using 99% isopropyl alcohol, remove adhesive residue from the housing. Apply the new perimeter adhesive starting from one corner, pressing firmly along the entire edge.
- 7
Reassemble and test
Reconnect the display connectors, then the battery. Replace the cover and screws. Close by aligning the top clips and pressing along the perimeter for 1-2 minutes. Replace the pentalobe screws. Power on and run a complete test.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a B2B iPhone 15 Pro Max display cost?
On InParts: INCELL from about €79, OLED soft from about €125, premium OLED DD with frame from about €189, OLED RJ over €250. Choose based on the required performance.
Why choose OLED over INCELL?
OLED guarantees Always-On, smooth ProMotion 120Hz, deep blacks, and correct power consumption. INCELL costs less but does not replicate these premium features.
Is the 15 Pro display compatible with the 15 Pro Max?
No: the diagonals (6.1" vs 6.7") and connectors are different. Each model requires its own display.
