How to replace the charging connector of an iPhone 11

~45 minDifficulty: advancedApple • iPhone 11

When an iPhone 11 stops charging, the issue is often the charging connector flex (Lightning dock) being worn or oxidized. On the iPhone 11, the dock is a screwed-in flex cable, replaceable WITHOUT soldering. This guide explains the procedure. Average time: 40-50 minutes. Difficulty: medium-advanced.

Warnings Before You Start

  • Before replacing, rule out software or power adapter causes: clean the dock with isopropyl alcohol and try another cable. Often it's just dirt/oxidation.
  • The dock runs under the battery and other flex cables: proceed in order and photograph each step for reassembly.
  • Always disconnect the battery before working. Do not force pressure connectors.

Recommended Tools

  • Pentalobe P2 screwdriver
  • Tri-wing Y000 screwdriver
  • Phillips #00 screwdriver
  • Suction cup + spudgers
  • Heating plate or hot air
  • Antistatic tweezers
  • Perimeter adhesive + isopropyl alcohol 99%

Step-by-Step Procedure

  1. 1

Power off, open the display and disconnect the battery

Remove the pentalobe screws, heat and open the screen like a book. Remove the tri-wing bracket and disconnect the battery connector.

  2. 2

    Remove the display

Disconnect the display flex cables (Phillips #00 cover) and set the screen aside on an antistatic surface.

  3. 3

Remove the Taptic Engine and lower speaker

On the bottom edge, unscrew and remove the Taptic Engine and speaker: they cover the path of the charging flex.

  4. 4

Disconnect the dock flex from the motherboard

The charging connector has one or more pressure connectors on the motherboard and screws that secure it to the frame. Remove the screws and disconnect the connectors with a spudger.

  5. 5

    Remove the old charging flex

The flex is glued to the frame and runs under the battery/lower flex cables. Heat gently, detach the adhesive and carefully slide out the flex following its path.

💡 Tip: Photograph the flex layout before removing it: the new one must be positioned exactly along the same path to close properly.
  6. 6

    Position the new charging flex

Fit the new dock into the frame following the original path, secure the screws and reconnect the pressure connectors on the motherboard. Make sure the Lightning connector is perfectly aligned with the bottom hole of the housing.

  7. 7

Reassemble Taptic Engine, speaker and display

Reinstall the lower speaker and Taptic Engine with their respective screws. Reconnect the display flex cables.

  8. 8

    Test and close

Reconnect the battery and power on. Test charging with a cable, the lower speaker audio, the microphone and vibration. If everything works, close with new perimeter adhesive and put the pentalobe screws back in.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an iPhone 11 charging connector cost B2B?

On InParts, the iPhone 11 charging dock flex starts from around €14-15 (B2B), available in various colors to match the housing.

Does the iPhone 11 require soldering for the charging connector?

No: on the iPhone 11 the Lightning dock is a screwed-in flex connected via pressure connectors, replaceable without microsoldering. Soldering is only needed if the FPC socket on the motherboard side is damaged.

After the replacement it still doesn't charge, why?

Check the alignment of the Lightning connector with the hole, that the pressure connectors are properly seated and there is no oxidation. If the problem lies upstream (charging IC/tristar on the board), a separate microsoldering intervention is needed.
