How to replace the battery of an iPhone 14

~30 minDifficulty: mediumApple • iPhone 14

The base iPhone 14 introduces a redesigned frame that can also be opened from the back: battery replacement is more accessible compared to previous models. This guide explains the step-by-step procedure. Average time for an experienced technician: 25-35 minutes. Difficulty: medium.

Warnings Before You Start

  • ALWAYS disconnect the battery connector before touching other components.
  • Never puncture or bend the lithium cell: fire risk. If a pull tab breaks, use moderate heat and a plastic spudger.
  • With a battery using a non-original BMS, the 'Important Battery Service' warning will appear: use self-diagnosing cells or a BMS programmer.

Required Parts

  • Battery for iPhone 14 (no logo)
    SKU: a2592
    Buy
  • Back cover/frame housing for iPhone 14 (if the rear glass is damaged)
    SKU: a1913 • optional
    Buy

Recommended Tools

  • Pentalobe P2 screwdriver
  • Tri-wing Y000 screwdriver
  • Phillips #00 screwdriver
  • Suction cup + thin opening picks
  • Heating plate or hot air
  • Antistatic tweezers
  • Replacement battery adhesive strips

Step-by-Step Procedure

  1. 1

Turn off the phone and remove the pentalobe screws

Fully power off the device. On the bottom edge, on either side of the Lightning connector, remove the 2 P2 pentalobe screws and set them aside separately.

  2. 2

Heat the edges and open the display like a book

Heat the perimeter of the display to 70-80°C for 2-3 minutes (heating plate or hot air). Apply the suction cup above the bottom area, create a gap, and insert a pick; run it along the sides to cut through the adhesive. Open the screen like a book up to ~90°, supporting it with a stand.

💡 Tip: Do not exceed 80°C: risk of permanent stains on the OLED and damage to the flex cables.
  3. 3

    Disconnect the battery connector

Remove the metal bracket covering the connectors (tri-wing Y000 screws). Using a spudger, lift the battery connector: this is the first step to work safely and avoid short circuits.

  4. 4

Disconnect the display connectors and remove the screen (if needed)

If you need to fully clear the battery compartment, remove the display connector cover (Phillips #00 screws) and disconnect the display flex cables. Set the screen aside on an antistatic surface.

  5. 5

    Release the battery adhesive tabs

Under the battery are the stretch-release adhesive tabs. Pull them parallel to the battery's plane, slowly and steadily, one at a time. Do not pull at an angle or they will break.

💡 Tip: If a tab breaks, stop: heat to ~60°C for 2 minutes under the battery and gently lift with a plastic spudger. Never puncture the lithium cell.
  6. 6

    Remove the old battery

Once all tabs are released, the battery comes out without force. If you feel resistance, apply a bit more heat. Do not pry with metal tools on the cell.

  7. 7

Clean the housing and apply the new adhesive tabs

Remove any adhesive residue from the housing with 99% isopropyl alcohol and an antistatic cloth. Apply the new adhesive tabs to the replacement battery, then position the battery aligning the connector.

  8. 8

Reconnect, verify readings, and close up

Connect the battery connector (and display flex cables if removed). Turn on the device and check the Battery Health status in settings. If you use a self-diagnosing battery or an original Service Pack, the 'Non-original battery' warning will not appear. Close with new perimeter adhesive and reinsert the pentalobe screws.

💡 Tip: Aftermarket batteries with a generic BMS display the 'Important Battery Service' warning: to avoid this, use self-diagnosing cells (JCID/DEJI) or a BMS programmer (JC, MAGICO, AIXUN).

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an iPhone 14 battery cost for a B2B repairer?

On InParts, the iPhone 14 battery starts at around €18 (B2B). Self-diagnosing versions (without battery warning) cost a few euros more.

Is it true that the iPhone 14 opens from the back?

Yes, the base iPhone 14 model (not Pro) has a redesigned frame that allows opening from the rear glass, simplifying certain repairs. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, however, still open from the display.

How do I avoid the 'non-original battery' warning?

Use an original Service Pack battery, or a self-diagnosing cell (JCID/DEJI), or clone the original BMS with a programmer (JC, MAGICO, AIXUN).
